So you put on a few pounds this winter and you’re looking to burn them off, right? Yet the gym seems so intimidating and you’re not about to go buy a treadmill. Did you know you’re burning calories just in your daily routine alone? Here are some “sneaky” ways to burn off those calories. It’s like you’re exercising without even trying!
- Take the Stairs Instead of the Elevator. It’s simple advice that you’ve probably heard a million times…but you’ve never actually done it, right? Do yourself a favor and make today the day. If you work on the 14th floor, that may be a pretty big fitness endeavor to try on the first day…so get off at the 11th floor and walk the rest of the way. Yes, you can do it in heels. You’re probably burning more calories that way, anyway.
- Gardening. Yep, pulling out those pesky weeds and trimming the hedges actually counts as exercise. You’re burning more calories than you think and you’re making your lawn gorgeous: it’s a win-win in our book.
- Stand on the Subway. Don’t sit down. Sitting down is for wimps. You’ll burn plenty more calories by standing. Plus you won’t have to feel guilty about not giving up your seat to the old lady in the walker.
- Walk More, Drive Less. Gone are the days of driving to the just-down-the-street grocery store. It’s time to burn some calories, and you’re walking. Bring a bookbag for heavy grocery items. You could also drag that bike out of the shed and outfit it with a shiny new basket.
